In only his third season racing a sprintcar, Muswellbrook’s Kobi Wright has been offered a seat with a prestigious team for the upcoming Adelade 500 event.

Bohud Racing’s driver Michael Stewart was injured in a crash at Toowoomba earlier this season, which opened an opportunity for someone else to take on the drive with the team who won this event last year.

“Dad got a phone call from Michael wondering if we’d like to drive it, we obviously said yes, we weren’t going to turn the opportunity down,” Kobi said.

“I’m obviously really excited, he would have had phone calls coming from everywhere, and there was probably a fair few more experienced drivers than me that they could have chosen.

“I’m just happy that they picked me, it’s a big opportunity for me to get to showcase myself on the big stages and I’m just looking forward to it, hoping I can do the best that I can for them.”

Bohud Racing team owner Scott Jones was on board with getting Kobi in the seat of the NS14 car after their regular driver was ruled out.

“My goal from the beginning of starting up the Bohud Racing team four seasons ago was to give young drivers a chance in Sprintcar racing, and although it’s come about through some misfortune to Michael, it’s exciting to continue this by giving Kobi an opportunity to run for the team,” he shared.

The deal is currently for five race meetings in November, kicking off at Borderline Speedway at Mount Gambier and Tolmer Speedway, Bordertown, before they tackle three nights at Adelaide where sprintcars will feature at the Supercars final round.

These additional nights will be beneficial for Kobi as he experiences working with a new team and car.

“I’m nervous, there’s a whole new team I’m going to but at the same time, I’m obviously really excited, it’ll be a get to see some new insights and stuff from that that maybe we wouldn’t have thought of,” Kobi told The Hunter River Times.
