Scone equestrian Andrew Driffield was one of 17 athletes who participated in the 2023 Virtus Global Games to be presented with an Australian Sports Medal at Sydney’s Government House recently.

“It’s great recognition for what we did last year, and all the athletes were very honoured,” Andrew said.

Andrew was awarded his medal by the Governor of New South Wales, Margaret Beazley, and was one of three selected to meet the Governor before everyone else.

“We got shown around Government House and were shown how to approach the Governor when we got our medal; so, going up to her, she’ll put her hand out, you put your hand out, shake it, nod your head and then smile to the camera,” Andrew shared.

“It was great to meet with other athletes and have a chat with Governor afterwards, she was very approachable.”

Following the ceremony, the athletes were treated to morning tea.

Andrew also shared his excitement for the five new Equestrian riders that have joined Virtus, as well as for an upcoming meeting that might mean the Virtus Dressage will be included in Para Equestrian.
