Some 300 soldiers will take part in the Anzac Day March through Singleton as the town comes together to commemorate the men and women who have served our nation in all wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations.
The nearby presence of the School of Infantry and military families living in the town make this service even more relevant and the participation of the soldiers will be an impressive sight.
Organisers Singleton RSL Sub-branch president Mark Cederblad and RSL Womens Ausiliary coordinator Frances Mount have gone to a tremendous effort to give the town a service taking into account covid restrictions.
“We can only have 3000 people in the park for the service and people will have to sign in so we hope people will be patient as we adhere to the requirements,” Mr Cederblad said.
The march will form in Ryan Avenue from 10am and will step off at 10:15am to arrive in Burdekin Park at 10:30am. The march will go from Ryan Avenue down Hunter Street, not Elizabeth Street as in previous years because of the roadworks.
A small dawn service will be held in Burdekin Park at 5:30am.
“The times are estimates because we don’t know how long the sign-in process may take,” Mark said.
He particularly thanked Singleton Council’s events coordinator Claire Briggs for her assistance in what has been a demanding process.
