With the Sydney Sixers not advancing to the finals in the 2025 Women’s Big Bash League series, Caoimhe Bray has wrapped up her debut year.
Stepping out for all 10 of the Sixers games, the Denman teenager is now on record as the youngest player in WBBL history.
“It’s honestly incredible,” Caoimhe said when asked how she felt about the experience.
“A lot happened very quickly for me, the Aussie 19s stuff, and then into Spring Challenge, and then WBBL, and I think at that time my form was going well with the ball, and it just started going really well for me, and it couldn’t have gone any better.”
Across all games Caoimhe bowled 28 overs, took 10 wickets for 208 runs, she also stepped up to bat for five innings, scoring 37 runs, some impressive stats for the teenager.
After admitting that picking an on-field highlight from the campaign was tricky, it was the people around her that made the experience memorable for her.
“You meet people like Pez (Ellyce Perry), Alyssa Healy, Ash Gardner, Lauren Cheatle, and you’re big fans of them and then you end up being friends with them,” Caoimhe told The Hunter River Times.
While the Sixers lost their game against Sydney Thunder at the SCG, the game was a special moment for Caoimhe as around 60 members of the Denman Cricket Club were a sea of maroon in the stands cheering her on.
“Having my old hometown come to the ground, and they all got on the bus together, it was really cute and wholesome and then I got to see them all at the end,” she said.
“And then my club team came as well, and they all supported me really well in that corner, chanting my name through the game.”
Caoimhe was only back at school for a few days before jetting off to Perth where she is taking part in the Cricket Australia Under 19 National Female Cricket Championships that wrap up early next week.
From this tournament a team will be selected for the Under 19’s Women’s T20 World Cup that will take place in January, with Caoimhe hoping she makes the cut.
