The Upper Hunter is the birth place of the Blue Heeler and Muswellbrook is celebrating that fact when the showground is host to a free family fun day on Saturday, September 10.

Coordinated by the Muswellbrook Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the event is the first of its kind in Australia and registrations indicate people are travelling from across the region, around Australia and overseas to attend.

The three-day event has a combination of activities that cater for the serious cattle dog enthusiast, the pet cattle dog owner, and the general public.

Friday, September 9, and Sunday, September 10 are for the cattle dogs and their owners only with nine judges from across Australia set to judge the serious component of the event.

But on Saturday, it is all about having fun and celebrating this wonderful breed.

A full day of dog related and non-dog related activities for cattle dog enthusiasts, will see Muswellbrook Showground come alive with music, food, wine, produce, market stalls, merchandise, food vans, children’s entertainment and live country music from Jason Owen, Hayley Jensen and The Collective.

There will be cattle dog competition events and working cattle dog events throughout the day.

Tickets are free and is everyone is welcome to attend.

The chamber is hoping this will become an annual event adding a significant boost to the local economy.
