It was a big day for Ron and Joan Stokes at Singleton Hospital Auxiliary’s meeting last Thursday.
Both were presented with ten-year service certificates by the Auxiliary, Ron had 90th birthday cake to share but the big cause for celebrations was the demonstration of the hospital’s newest piece of equipment, the LUCAS.
Ron had the pleasure of starting the machine and he was a worthy Auxiliary member to perform the honours.
The $20,000 machine was purchased by Singleton Hospital Auxiliary who were the recipients of Ron’s sold-out book, A Bygone Era.
Ron said he was pleased to see such a worthwhile piece of equipment purchased and now available for use at Singleton Hospital.
The innovative device provides mechanical chest compressions to patients who have suffered cardiac arrest.
Auxiliary president Elaine Staunton was delighted the organisation could make such a wonderful donation to the hospital and thanked Ron, and his wife, Joan, for their valuable contribution as members of the Auxiliary.
