Scone Neighbourhood Resource Centre have ticked off another project to help their community with the opening of the Community Laundry.

Centre manager Lee Watts said the facility will provide dignity and fulfillment for homeless people in the community who will be able to wash their clothes, a simple thing many of us take for granted.

“This is a project we feel was important, the laundry will fill a gap of a service needed in our community,” Lee said at the official opening.

“We would not be here if it weren’t for the organisations who are willing to back our service and believe in our vision”

The project has been made possible through Federal government funding from the Stronger Communities Fund, as well as Joblink Plus Scone and the Scone RSL Club.

Deputy Prime Minister Barnaby Joyce was in Scone for the official opening and reiterated the importance of supporting people in the community who are having a hard time.

“What this does is gives a bit of dignity back into their lives, dignity is incredibly important,” he said.

“It’s a credit to the people who have taken time out of their day to be part of that service to make Australia a kinder, better place.”

The Community Laundry is located at the corner of Kelly and Susan Streets, and will be open when the Neighbourhood centre is, between 9am and 4pm.
