Muswellbrook Shire Council is gearing up for a busy week for National Tree Day.
With two main planting sites taking place on Sunday July 28, sustainability officer Mick Brady is encouraging the community to get involved.
“We normally plant about one thousand to fifteen hundred trees each year, and we get lots of people that come along and plant the trees,” he said.
“Be ready to plant, it doesn’t matter if you’ve never planted a plant before or maybe you have planted thousands, we will put you to work.”
Muswellbrook Shire Council, assisted by the NSW Government though its Environmental Trust, will also host some school and community plantings in the week leading up to National Tree Day, including a session for homeschool students who will join with Warrior Disability Service to plant trees at Muscle Creek.
The two community plantings on Sunday July 28 are in Denman at Hyde Park from 9am to about midday and will include a barbecue thanks to Denman Scouts, and the Muswellbrook planting will start at 11am and run until about 1pm at Tarinpa behind Pet Medical and will also include a barbecue.
Participants are encouraged to wear enclosed shoes, long pants and a hat and bring water, gloves will be provided if you don’t have your own.
