It has been a long time coming but Lake Liddell Speedbowl is set to welcome spectators early next month.

Promoter Mitchell Biner said he has been fielding calls from people wanting to get in on the action for the longest time, but it was important to do everything right before welcoming spectators to the track.

“It’s been nearly two years working with local government, council, transport for New South Wales, it’s been a long project but you’ve got to do it properly,” he shared of the process, which has also been hindered by weather and covid issues.

“The venue is still a constant work in progress, we’re doing what we can with the tough times and we’ve had some good help along the way but it is mainly a self-funded project.”

Current permits will allow the track to run race meetings, with spectators, during the day and the next event will be on Saturday June 4 which will feature the lightning sprints in their Winter Nationals round which will pay $1,000 to the winner, along with compact speed cars, GP midgets and outlaw karts.

Over the June long weekend the track will be running power I600cc micro sprints, winged micro sprints, go karts, and more.

Even if you have never been to speedway before, this is a great chance to get out and support a local project.

“In your face action. Fast, you’re close to the cars, it’s noisy, it’s exciting, dare say there will be some crashes, just family fun, more than anything – come enjoy a relaxed day with the family,” Mitchell said when asked what people can expect from a day trackside.

The project would not have been possible without the support from Ged and a number of other people who have been willing to get in and help make it happen, but now is the time for others to step up and take on race officiating roles such as flag marshals, gate attendants and more.

With the grounds still a work in progress it is advised to bring along a tarp or picnic mat to sit on until grass has a chance to grow.

Tickets will be limited for the first two events, to help ease any teething issues that may arise, and details on how to purchase can be found on the Lake Liddell Speedbowl Facebook page.
