A recent Ride Park Day at Denman Motorcycle Club attracted local and visiting trials riders for a practice in the lead up to the National Titles held over the June long weekend.
The Denman club hosts around six Ride Park Days throughout the year which offer riders a chance to hone their skills and enjoy a day out with mates.
“Each event we set the five sections, and we split it with all the different grades depending on skill level, from expert level down to junior,” Allan Betts explained.
“We set it with the five sections and all the splits as if it is a competition day, but it’s technically only a practice day, riders can just come and have a try.”
Denman does attract a range of ages and skill levels along to their days, including riders who have represented at an international level in trials riding.
Allan explained that trials riding is not about going fast, it is about control and maundering through a course to get the highest score possible.
The bikes are specifically designed to move through the rocky courses without being cumbersome.
“They’re made for climbing rocks, basically, and riding over obstacles, they’re a very lightweight motorcycle, very nimble,” Allan explained of the dedicated trials bikes, adding they teach good throttle, clutch and break control.
“We have people turn up riding old 1970s twin-shock trials bikes right up to the latest mono shock trials bike.”
In terms of what the rider needs to wear, a helmet, motorcycle boots and long riding pants are essential for safety.
New members and visitors are welcome to the Denman Motorcycle Club events, with the next one planned for July 27, information and updates are posted on the clubs Facebook page.
