Leaving the land in a better condition than when you arrived is the basis of the Verified RegenGrown program, offering landholders practical skills and knowledge to make more informed decisions. It is a national program by farmer-led charity Carbon8, a registered charity supporting farmers to transition to Regenerative Agriculture.
It is a pathway to healthier soils, stronger ecosystems and a more profitable, resilient farm.
One of the course coaches, Dr Ernie Harbott, says the outcomes include better productivity, better water cycling and retention and much improved soil health.
Whether you are already working regeneratively or just starting to explore what is possible, this is a chance to build lasting resilience from the soil up.
The course is now being offered to a limited 44 landholders living in Singleton, Muswellbrook and the Upper Hunter with the normal price of $1950 heavily subsidised to $50 thanks to funding from the Regional Drought Planning Program and the NSW Environmental Trust coordinated by the three councils.
It is an online course with eight modules offered over 12 weeks kicking off on August 29.
“It is just so practical, it is about stock rotation, crop decisions, weed management, diversity, soil condition and farmer wellbeing, and participants are given the support and bespoke tools to test their soils, measure ecological health, monitor change, and make confident decisions for their land and livelihood,” Ernie said.
“Improvements can be quantified, it is just all observing and a bit of measuring what many farmers are already starting to take note of, only now they can receive recognition for the positive changes they’re making and the way they’re managing their land.” Ernie said.
Optional in-person events at Scone or Denman will also be held before the program begins, offering a chance to meet with fellow farmers and start the journey face-to-face.
An event will be held in Scone on August 25 and Denman on August 26 and everyone is welcome. Each day will feature expert presentations, real-world examples, practical discussions, Q&A with experts and local farmers, an introduction to the Verified RegenGrown program and a free lunch.
