Mines Rescue has received a significant boost to its training capabilities thanks to a generous donation from DGI Trading. The donation, a refurbished truck cab, has been praised for its exceptional quality and the positive impact it will have on training emergency responders.

Matt Enright, Regional Manager Hunter Valley Mines Rescue, expressed his gratitude towards DGI Trading.

“On behalf of Mines Rescue, this piece of equipment is very much appreciated and has exceeded our expectations,” he said.

DGI Trading, a global leader in sourcing, recycling, and remarketing of OEM mining machinery and components, is proud to support the work of Mines Rescue.

Craig Smith, Operations Manager at DGI Trading, trained for 15 years as an Emergency Response Team member at the Hunter Valley Mines Rescue station, and understands firsthand the value of realistic training equipment.

“When Brad [McGrath, Mines Rescue Training Officer] contacted me to explain that they were looking for an old truck cab that could be used for training purposes, I knew exactly how it would be used and the importance of it being as real as what the guys on site would be using,” he said.

The newly refurbished cab has already attracted significant attention from those attending training sessions at the station.

Trainees have noted that the cab includes many of the modern features of a haul truck, down to the buttons and air conditioning vent.

Matt highlighted the practical benefits of the new addition.

“The addition of the cab to our training facilities has added that something extra to how we will train our surface mines’ emergency responders. We will locate the cab on our mezzanine floor to replicate a haul truck and use that platform to train, for example, where the driver may be trapped in the cab and the team need to safely extricate the driver and then get them safely to the ground from the truck deck.”

The enhanced training capabilities are expected to significantly improve the preparedness and effectiveness of emergency responders in the region.
