For 48 hours only, on April 9 and 10, Carrie’s Place Domestic Violence and Homelessness Service has the opportunity to double the impact of every donation received, thanks to the Beyond Bank Foundation.
The campaign aims to raise $20,000, with Beyond Bank matching up to $10,000 in donations to fund crucial education and support programs for survivors of domestic and family violence.
Domestic and family violence is a national crisis with 1 in 4 Australian women having experienced violence since the age of 15. Locally, the crisis is escalating, with a 21.8% increase in domestic violence-related assaults across the Hunter Valley in the past two years alone. Since April 2022, nearly 4,000 incidents have been reported in the region.
Carrie’s Place CEO, Jayne Clowes, highlights the power of education in breaking the cycle of violence:
“Through our programs, we empower individuals, families and communities with the knowledge and skills to recognise, prevent and respond to abuse. The Beyond Bank Double Donation initiative will directly support these critical education efforts, ensuring we can reach more people, challenge harmful attitudes and create lasting change. Every dollar donated goes towards building a safer future – because when we educate, we empower, and when we empower, we prevent violence before it begins.”
One of the key areas these funds will support is Carrie’s Place Groupwork Programs, which provide survivors with workshops and support groups to rebuild their confidence and independence. Research shows that group participation helps survivors by increasing self-esteem, reducing social isolation, and combating self-stigma.
