The team from St Joseph’s Catholic College, Aberdeen, planning the Upper Hunter Disability Expo are Sarah Doyle, Jane Matherson, Lauren Gallagher, Jessica Wells, Lucy Middleton and Timothy O’Toole.

With the objective of bringing service providers, activities and the community together, Sarah Doyle is preparing for another year of the Upper Hunter Disability Expo next Thursday.

Having made the move to St Joseph’s Catholic College, Aberdeen, to be in a more central location they are expecting more than 30 stalls to be set up on the day.

“The Disability Expo is a way that parents and community members can connect locally with services and providers that are here in the Upper Hunter,” Sarah said.

“A lot of the time we find that people are referred to places down in Newcastle, but we’ve actually got services here that can meet their needs, so it’s really important to showcase what we have here in the Upper Hunter for parents.”

As well as providers of services like occupational and speech therapy, there will be representatives from Muswellbrook District Junior Rugby Leage who run a League Ability program, Satori Space that offer children’s mindful and meditation programs, and Rainbow Club swimming lessons.

“If you have a person with a disability but you don’t have NDIS yet, this is a perfect place to come, because we’ve got all the connections where you can actually start to get NDIS,” Sarah explained.

This event is open to the whole community, not just for NDIS participants.

The Upper Hunter Disability Expo will be on Thursday, May 22 from 3.45pm to 5pm at St Joseph’s Catholic College, entry is free and St Joseph’s P&F will be running a barbecue.
