Kerri Garvie’s stature of five foot and one very precious half-inch offers challenges.
One of them is the pain she endured over her 20 years in business in her legs and back when she is seated at her desk for long periods of time.
“I am a short-arse, my feet don’t touch the ground,” Kerri admitted.
She has tried several strategies but nothing seemed to work and given she is a bookkeeper, spending 14 or 16 hours a day at her desk became unbearable.
But now that pain is gone thanks to her invention she has officially named the Posture Assist Footrest that she has also patented.
Kerri remains a bit dumbfounded when she admits she is an inventor but is equally delighted that she now has a gadget that she can easily attach to the legs of her chair that corrects her posture which has been the cause of her pain all these years.
“I reached a point where I was just fed up, I was going to physio and other therapies but the pain didn’t go away,” Kerri said.
It was during covid in 2019 that she began experimenting with prototypes of the design she is now manufacturing which had four key components she would not compromise.
“It had to be light weight, it had to be made in Australia from recyclable products and it had to be adjustable in height,” Kerri said.
The device isn’t just for shorties either.
“I have a fellow who is six foot three and the device makes him sit back in his chair, his pain is gone too,” Kerri said.
She went into full production in Easter this year and hasn’t looked back.
“I just want to get the word out, it is a pretty simple idea but it has made such a difference to my life,” Kerri said.
