The Muswellbrook Eagles Football Club was determined to put on a show for their Old Boys Day despite the Saturday All Age side having their opponents forfeit the day before their match.
The All Age Women and the Over 35’s also had their games not happen due to opposition forfeiting, so the club decided to combine them, along with the Friday All Age Side to create a Friday All Stars to take on the Saturday All Age team.
“It was very disappointing for the teams to forfeit and not travel up here, but we managed to scramble and get a team together to play our all age men’s team today just to put on a bit of exhibition for the Old Boys,” Adam Regan, Eagles president said.
“I think it made the day more enjoyable because you weren’t trying to compete to win, you’re just out there to have a bit of fun with your mates and have a bit of a kick around, and that’s what Old Boys Day is about.”
Despite it being a friendly match, it didn’t go unnoticed that the Friday All Stars got two goals past the Saturday All Age team, the first time this season a team has scored against them.
The final score did however go the way of the Saturday All Age team, five to two.
Adam shared that Old Boys Day is important to the club as it brings players past and present together to catch up.
“It’s like a family reunion, so we can reminisce on the olden days when we used to play all together and also catch up on how they are traveling and see who’s needs a bit of assistance out of the game,” he said.
The club also hosted their Centenary Ball that evening as a chance to get dressed up and celebrate the club’s history and future.
