The Upper Hunter is just weeks away from one of the area’s most popular charity events, Sandy Hollow Charity Motorfest.
This year they will take over the grounds of the Tourist Hotel on Saturday, August 17 for a day of great country fun.
“There’ll be lawnmower demonstrations, there’ll be nice old cars for people to have a look at, there will be a heap of stalls, face painting, a bucking bull for the kids. Just a nice, family weekend out,” Mick Turner, committee president said.
“This year we’re raising money for MS Australia, last year we raised money for motor neuron disease, and we raised $8,000 for them.”
Each year the committee discusses what charity they could support, wanting to share the fundraising around to support as many organisations as they can.
The team has been out in the community selling raffle tickets to help build up the donation they will make later on in the year, and Mick shared local businesses have been really supportive of the cause.
“It just it just blows me away, to have everybody getting involved and to help us out like this, it’s amazing. I still have phone calls today, people ringing up to say ‘hey, can I donate, can I do something,” he said.
Sandy Hollow Charity Motorfest will start at 9am on Saturday, August 17, entry is $10 per car, $2 per person (under 10 free) and $50 entry for the lawnmower demonstrations.
