Get an Eyeful of Tower at Singleton Library

Woodworker David Gallahan with Singleton Library’s acquisition officer Miranda Blandford Willis.

David Gallahan’s skill with wood creations is quite renowned but his latest creation is certainly capturing attention.

A reproduction of the Eiffel Tower now stands in prominence at Singleton Library for all to admire.

It will eventually be displayed at Singleton Men’s Shed but before then, David hoped that the broader community could inspect it.

Standing at 2.9 metres in height, the structure is made from scrap pieces of wood, all carefully constructed together in a project that took about four months.

“I tell people all I do is stick pieces of wood together with glue,” David laughed.

David was fortunate to visit Paris some 30 years ago but says his sculpture’s design is based on photos and because of the material, it is not an exact replica but as close as possible.

A regular attendee at Singleton Men’s Shed, one of his colleagues suggested he attempt the Eifel Tower and the challenge was one David could not refuse.

“Is this big enough for the front page?” he questioned The Hunter River Times when we were at the Library.

We guess so David.
