Get Ready to Vote on May 3 in Federal Election

The Federal Election has been called for Saturday, May 3.

For the first time Muswellbrook will be in the seat of New England after new electorate boundaries were gazetted in October, 2024.

The seat of Hunter includes Singleton, part of Cessnock, Maitland and Lake Macquarie.

A meet the candidates event was coordinated by Muswellbrook Chamber of Commerce on Tuesday morning, kicking off a series of similar events across the region.  (Meeting report on page 10).

An event for the seat of Hunter was held at Club Singleton on Wednesday night after The Hunter River Times had gone to print.

Candidates to date for seat of New England are sitting member Barnaby Joyce from Nationals, Brent Larkham from One Nation, Laura Hughes Labor, Wendy Wales Greens, Holly Masters Family First and independent Natasha Ledger.

Candidates for the seat of Hunter so far are sitting member Dan Repacholi Labor, Sue Gilroy Nationals, Louise Stokes Greens, Stuart Bonds One Nation, Suellen Wrightson Trumpets and Patriots, Andrew Fenwick Legalise Cannabis and Paul Farrelly Family First.

Labor has held the seat of Hunter since 1910 with Dan Repacholi elected in 2022 following the retirement of Joel Fitzgibbon who held the seat from 1996 to 2022.

Rolls to vote in the Federal Election close on April 7. If you are not yet enrolled you can do this now on the Australian Electoral Commission website.

Nominations for candidates close on April 10 and the declaration of nominees will be held the following day.

Postal vote applications close on April 30 and early voting will kick off on April 22.
