For the second time in two months the roads of Glendon (near Singleton) will be playing host to a prestigious Cycling NSW event this weekend.
Many cyclists from across the state have already arrived in Singleton this week to prepare for this Saturday’s NSW Club Team Time Trial Championships.
This marks the second year that the Singleton LGA has hosted the event.
“Singleton is a great location for adventure and recreation, and Council is pleased to support Cycling NSW to deliver the perfect blend of both through events such as the NSW Time Trial Road Championships and Hunter Valley Chrono,” Cr Sue Moore (Singleton mayor) said.
The circuit, which starts at Roughit Lane (before covering Glendon Road, Elderslie Road and Gresford Road), will then play host to the Hunter Valley Chrono this Sunday.
More than 400 cyclists have already registered to participate in the events.
“Council is really proud of the relationship we have with Cycling NSW and the opportunity to highlight all the reasons that anyone would want to visit our beautiful part of the Hunter Valley.”
Singleton mayor Sue Moore has praised residents for their co-operation ahead of this weekend’s huge cycling event with many locals from Glendon to Clydesdale offering to lend their paddocks for parking and marshalling areas.
“We are also grateful for the support of Hunter Valley Operations to help Council bring this event to Singleton, and our local tourism operators including the Around Hermitage Wine Tourism Association, Catherine Vale Wines and Peter Drayton Wines who have sponsored event prizes.
“Local businesses from Broke Fordwich, including Short Black Pony coffee van and Smokin Hot N Saucy, will also be on hand to help keep riders well fuelled.
“The success of events like these, and the ongoing relationship with organisations such as Cycling NSW, is a testament to the support of our community and the kind of country hospitality we pride ourselves on.
“We look forward to welcoming riders back to our region this weekend and seeing the direct benefit that it brings to our local economy, and promoting not only cycling, but Singleton as a destination.”
While there will be no road closures associated with the events, motorists are asked to take care and follow directional signage.
