Pedro finds a new home

BY DI SNEDDON

When Dwight and Denise Geelan went to the Pentire Bull Sale at Goorangoola at the weekend he intended to spend his money on bulls.

Instead they came home with Pedro the Donkey and they couldn’t be happier.

You see, this purchase has been 15 years in the making.

Denise’s mother Wendy Cooper has always had donkeys on her property but her last one died 15 years ago and it was always Dwight and Denise’s intention to buy her another.

They went as far as purchasing a donkey 12 years ago but it never left their own paddock.

“Yeah, we kept it,” Dwight said a little guiltily.

So, when Pedro came up on the sale listing for the Pentire Bull Sale, the couple suggested to Wendy it might be time she received that long-awaited gift.

Given Wendy celebrated a significant birthday last week, Pedro provided the ideal, if not unique present.

“It wasn’t a surprise, she knew he was coming and was very, very happy,” Dwight said.

“When Justin turned up, we left Pedro in the yards at Wendy’s, he was very quiet and settled in really well,” he said.

“When Wendy arrived after knocking off work, she opened the yard and walked him up to the house, very happy.”

Given Pedro celebrated his first birthday on sale day and the fact that donkeys can live an average of 50 years, he has plenty of time to get accustomed to his new home.
