Podium Finish For Singleton

BY ALEX TIGANI

Netballers from Singleton, Scone and Muswellbrook travelled to Bankstown on the long weekend.

Some returned empty handed while others exceeded the expectations of those from their own region as the HART Senior State Titles returned for 2021.

The Singleton Opens side bounced back from a tournament opening 17-16 defeat to Belligen on Saturday by winning 15 of their final 17 games in Division 2 despite the absence of star Neisha Macpherson.

Singleton finished second overall to Belligen to claim the runner up title in a campaign which saw the women from Rose Point Park claim an impressive 41-3 win over Nelson Bay.

Scone’s Opens side also competed in the same division and dominated Day 1 with wins over Narrabri, Great Lakes, Woolgoola, Coonabarabran and Glen Innes.

However, they would be unable to continue their good form on Sunday and Monday; finishing 10th out of the 19 line-ups with a 10-1-7 record.

MEANWHILE Singleton also defeated Muswellbrook 22-21 on Day 1 of the Under 17 Division 3 tournament.

Yet it would be Muswellbrook who would finish 11th with a 5-10 record ahead of Singleton (finishing 15th of 16 teams with a 2-13 record).

Interestingly, Muswellbrook’s line-up in the Under-15 Division 2 tournament recorded draws against Bathurst, Tuggeranong, Orange and Nambucca Valley to finish eight out of 15 teams with a 4-4-7 record.

A junior Singleton squad also held off the bottom spot of the Under-15 Division 3 tournament thanks to wins over wooden spooner Macleay, Nelson Bay, Ballina and
Shoalhaven.
