Restoration and rehabilitation works continue at Muscle Creek
If you want to get down and dirty in Muswellbrook there is no better time or place.
With further funding secured through the NSW Government’s Environmental Trust Restoration and Rehabilitation Grant program, Muswellbrook Council plans to continue to improve the Muscle Creek area’s environmental and recreational areas and they need your help.
The projects need hands on involvement from the community and all you have to do is join the Muscle Creek Landcare group and take part in workshops where you can learn so much and in addition, the works will also provide some short-term employment opportunities.
The new funding under the Rehabilitation of Muscle Creek for Community and Environmental Benefit (2020) project will involve the control and eradication of weeds, erosion control and establishment of native vegetation, with a focus on the re-establishment of the endangered Hunter River Red Gum between the railway line and Muscle Creek.
Preparation works, including surveying the site, for Stage 1 of the Muswellbrook Urban Riparian Restoration Project (2019) in the area between Muswellbrook Golf Course and Muscle Creek have been completed and Stage 2, including the planting of 1000 plants and 1.5 hectares of weed control, will get underway in early 2021.
Council’s sustainability officer Mick Brady said Council would like to thank Muscle Creek Landcare and the Environmental Trust for their support of these projects.
“These ongoing works will help with the management and stewardship of this important environmental asset and I thank the Landcare group for their hard work and the Environmental Trust for their support with grant funding,” he said.
