The Singleton Roosters have retained the Nathan ‘Sadge’ Duncan Memorial Shield.

After a cancelled practise match against Maitland due to recent floods, Nadene McBride (women’s coach) and Neil Barton (men’s coach) finally had a chance to look at their line-ups in 2022.

The Roosterettes, who welcomed first year recruits Kustiani Tuckerman, Brittany Everleigh and Aimee Rapson, celebrated a nine-point victory at Weeraman Field.

Jed Ellis-Cluff (Singleton captain), Matt Dunn (Muswellbrook captain coach) and Neil Barton (Singleton coach) with Hazel and Cooper Forder (the late Nathan Duncan’s niece and nephew) at the Muswellbrook Hotel.

The Muswellbrook Cats then unleashed their new recruits Liam Cullen and Dylan Norton in the men’s clash to hold a tight lead of the Roosters.

However late goals to Daltyn McCartney, in his first match since 2020, and Alex Mitchell ensured a nail-biting three-point victory.

The Singleton Roosters held off two inspired Muswellbrook Cats’ line-ups in their trial matches at Weeraman Field on Saturday.

The AFL Hunter Central Coast season launch will now take place this Saturday before Round 1 commences Saturday, April 2.
