Heelers prepare for season 2023

BY ALEX TIGANI

Muswellbrook Heelers players and supporters will return to Highbrook Park this Saturday to kick-start their 2023 season.

Though the proud rugby outfit has opted to withdraw from the 2022 NHRU Divisional competition, club president Michael Hall has encouraged all members of the Heelers family to come to the club for a supporter’s day.

“We still have a functioning committee, we’ll continue to support our rugby community and sponsors,” he told The Hunter River Times.

“Obviously, it is hard to repay when we’re not playing but there are things we can do.”

The Heelers were one of three teams to pull out of the NHRU Divisional competition due to lack of player numbers.

Hall admits only ten players were attending training and half of this amount was available to play each week had they gone ahead with the 2022 season.

“On Saturday May 28, we’re opening the club to players and supporters to have a bit of a brainstorming session on what the community would like to see us do,” he added.

“What are their ideas to work on for season 2023?”
