New recruits try their hand at tennis

Not even the wintery winds could prevent the crowds from the region’s tennis courts.

More than 50 juniors made their way to the Howe Park Tennis Club on Sunday for the Singleton Tennis Coaching Open Day.

Singleton tennis coach Heidi Stanford praised her future leaders Drew Parnell, Dom Rohr and Claire Hayes for their efforts throughout the afternoon.

“We did really well this weekend,” she told The Hunter River Times.

“The day was put on by our future leaders and they ran it as part of their giving back to tennis.”

Coaches Mitchell Ryan and Drew Parnell welcomed some new faces to the court.

Though participants battled high winds and cold temperatures, Stanford still admits it was a successful day.

“There were lots of smiles and lots of kids having fun,” she concluded.

“It was also good to see the adults were out having a hit, taken to the grass courts.”
