Thoroughbreds conquer awards night

2022 was certainly a year to remember at Scone Park.

If Sunday’s grand final was Scone’s ultimate day of glory then consider last week’s Group 21 senior presentation evening as the club’s curtain raising clean sweep.

All four leading point-scorer awards were handed to premiership bound Scone Thoroughbreds as Jake Watts (first grade), Jack Pennell (reserve grade), Callum Dowell (under-18s) and Samantha Elphick (ladies league tag) were called to receive their awards.

Five first grade talents Blake Johnston (3.), Jared Austin (5.), Jarrod Wicks (6.), Luke Clydsdale (12.) and Adam Clydsdale (9.) were selected in the team of the year.

It was a surprise that there was not more as Denman quartet Bailey Taylor (1.), Jacob Sukanaivalu (2.), Liam Foran (7.) and Tyler Wolfgang (11.) joined the group.

Brady Hammond (13.), Dylon Edwards (4.) and Brock Gilmour (10.) represented the Greta Branxton Colts while Adam Grew (8.) was the sole representative for the Muswellbrook Rams.

Scone captain coach Adam Clydsdale was announced as the first-grade player of the year, an honour he was destined to achieve since returning to Group 21 level.

Teenager Mitchell Cox was also announced as the under-18 player of the year, proving the future is looking bright at Scone Park.
