Two innovative companies based in the Hunter, The Melt and MGA Thermal, are being showcased in a new campaign celebrating the region’s key role in Australia’s net zero transformation.

The “Bringing new energy to Australia” campaign by the Australian Government’s Net Zero Economy Agency features the people, projects, businesses and new industries working together to drive the energy transformation.

It highlights the many success stories of the Hunter, which is uniquely primed to seize the benefits of the global move to a net zero economy.

Many new and ground-breaking businesses, technologies and industries of the future have been seeded in The Melt, a remarkable Muswellbrook-based startup investor, accelerator and incubator creating a pipeline of clean-energy innovation. In addition to supporting and investing in start-ups, The Melt also creates, builds, scales and connects innovators of hardware and clean tech, enabling new technologies to be piloted in real-world environments, helping to identify barriers to commercial success, and connecting businesses with further investment and finance opportunities.

One of the businesses that has been supported by The Melt is home-grown success story MGA Thermal. After years of research and development at the University of Newcastle, the company has developed a revolutionary technology that offers a cheap, clean, safe and scalable way for industry to decarbonise. Its Miscibility Gaps Alloy (MGA) Blocks have a range of applications including storing renewable energy, making 24/7 clean steam for industrial heat and running steam turbines at power stations instead of burning coal.
