The Singleton Emergency Services Internship has been declared a success.
The eight-week program, which was a first for NSW, enabled 11 successful applicants to gain firsthand experience in emergency response across multiple agencies.
With only two weeks remaining, one member has already applied for his preferred emergency service with many expected to follow.
Singleton State Emergency Services (SES) Unit Commander Tim Merrick helped supervise the interns with a few challenges last week.
“The members of this program have been shown how to successfully conduct a river rescue among other SES duties,” he told The Hunter River Times.
The activity was appropriate after the Singleton SES Unit responded to a total of 681 requests for assistance in 2022, 467 of which were flood related.
MEANWHILE a graduation ceremony will take place for these interns later this month at Singleton Council Chambers.
