It is fair to assume Kane Hoskin is sleeping with his gold medal around his neck after a stunning performance at the PSSA Cross Country Regional Carnival.

The Year 6 student from Singleton Public School completed the 2km course in first place, taking a full minute of his personal best time and he cannot wait to cut the time even further when he represents his school at the State competition.

Since he took first place on the podium, Kane has been wearing his medal to school every day over the top of his Hunter Sports jumper that only sporting stars have the chance to wear.

“It feels amazing and fantastic,” Kane told The Hunter River Times last week when sharing his news.

He is now preparing for the State competition to be held in Sydney later this month and is quietly confident going into the event.

“Mum says I will have a good run, it will be easy,’ Kane said.

He trains everyday under a unique program devised by his mother.

“She picks me up from school and I get out of the car half way home and then I run home and try and beat mum and the car,” Kane said.

Does Kane beat the car.

“Usually,” he said.

In further news Kane has also qualified for the zone athletics carnival where he will compete in the 100 and 200m sprints.
