Two of the Upper Hunter’s young rugby league referees had the opportunity to run out with some at the top of the game at the NRLW Magic Round.
Indi Snowden, a Muswellbrook Junior Rams member, and Immogen Rogers who plays ladies league tag for Scone Thoroughbreds ran water for the referees on a soggy weekend in Newcastle.
“It was fun getting to be on the field, not only as a junior ref, but just coming into reffing as well,” Immogen said of the experience.
“It was good to be able to be with the players and meet the refs, and get to talk to them face to face,” Indi added.
Magic Round was played in Newcastle, with Immogen being a part of the Roosters verses Tigers game on a very wet Saturday, and Indi was there on Sunday for the Warriors verses Cowboys match.
The pair currently referee the local six to 12-year-old mini mods competition in addition to their playing commitments and enjoy the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the game at a professional level.
Local NRL competitions allow the juniors to referee the division below their own age group, giving the ability to progress as they grow up.
Indi and Immogen spend extra time on the weekends at local games with the other competition games, sometimes taking on supporting roles with the refs to keep honing their skills.
Both of the girls are enjoying their time refereeing, sharing that it is something they are looking forward to continuing to do for years to come.
