Singleton’s Kane Hoskin put in a star performance at the Australian Little Athletics Championship earlier this month bringing home five medals and four personal best performances.

The 12-year-old travelled to Brisbane on the weekend of April 11 and 12 qualifying and competing in five events winning medals in all.

Kane also achieved personal best times and distances in the 100m, 200m, discus and javelin.

He also competed in shot put and when you ask him his favourite event, he says all of them.

“They are all good, I just throw as far as I can and run like hell,” Kane said.

Competing in the paralympic category, this is the first time Kane has stepped up to the national stage as a member of the Para Athletics New South Wales team and it came with the additional challenge of Kane having confidence to take his first plane ride with the team unaccompanied by his biggest supporter, Mum Melissa.

Melissa said the experience has built Kane’s confidence and he thrived on being part of the team which is why she encourages all four of her children to step onto the sporting field.

“All four of my children are autistic but they come into their own on the sporting field which is what I love about sport,” Melissa said.

And the huge smile on Kane’s face as he showcases his medals is proof she is on the right track.
