Local contributions sought to create a snapshot of Singleton’s COVID-19 experience for the future.
Singleton residents and businesses are being called on to help the historians of the future understand the COVID-19 response and the impact on the local community by contributing to a virtual time capsule.
The Local History team at Singleton Public Library is collating the history of the COVID-19 experience in the Singleton local government area and looking for contributions from the community to complete the collection.
Submissions will be included on the Library’s Facebook page, website and saved in the Archives and Local Histories collections.
Anthony Egan, Council’s Director Business and Community Services, said the best submissions that reached the Library team by 9 August 2020 would be in the running for a Spend in Singleton gift card.
“We are quite literally living through a significant period in global history, and recording the events for the future,” he said.
“We’re encouraging people to submit any photos or momentos of your time in lockdown – it might be a picture of a pizza delivery on the front step, how you marked Anzac Day or maybe you were part of the bin isolation outing Facebook page.
“Anything that visually captures what COVID-19 was like for us in Singleton will help to create a snapshot in time so that future generations will understand what this time was like.
“Submissions can be made at any time, but to encourage people to think about it now, we have Spend in Singleton gift cards up for grabs for the best submissions that come into the Library by 9 August.”
Mr Egan said the Library was also gathering posters, flyers and mail-outs circulated in response to the COVID-19 pandemic for the collection.
“We’re specifically looking for items you might have received in your mailbox or while you were out and about, such as government leaflets, leaflets from local businesses, restaurants or organisations about their services during COVID-19, and community notices regarding COVID-19,” he said.
“If you have any of these items, please put it aside to mail or drop into the Library.”
Submissions may be made online. For more information or to submit your contribution, visit W https://www.singleton.nsw.gov.au/923/Pandemic-Time-Capsule
