This month’s centenary match will not be the only clash worth celebrating.
The Magpies’ undefeated girls tag side will play host to Scone Blue in the first vs. third under-12 clash at 5:10pm this afternoon.
The premiership favourite opened the season with a 24-12 win over powerhouse Denman followed by a convincing 26-10 victory over Scone Blue.
Audree Oldham managed to score four of her side’s nine tries in their 40-20 win over Aberdeen and five of her side’s seven against Scone White (a 32-20 win) before the side held off Muswellbrook 34-22.
Successful coach and junior club president Daniel Bidner admits has already been rewarded when watching the side reap the rewards of their hard work.
“This town is built around junior and senior rugby league, it brings the whole town together,” Bidner explains.
“For a small town geographically located it is really good, you can see the kids supporting it and buying into it and really enjoying themselves.”
The former Singleton Greyhound has praised his wife Sarah for her work as club secretary and all parents and volunteers who have been able to assist with the club’s junior program.
This afternoon’s clash will be followed by Merriwa’s under-14 clash against Scone.
This age group, coached by mother and daughter duo Mandy and Rachael Hunter, rectified a 0-4 start to the season with a memorable 52-8 win over Singleton last month.
