Last week St Joseph’s Primary School Denman proudly unveiled three beautiful murals created by the students.
The murals were painted by students across all grades, helped by local professional graphic artist Anna Rolfe.
“The beautiful aspect of the project is that every one of our 57 students have contributed to the murals so there is a strong sense of welcoming and belonging to the school,” principal Helen Whales said.
The murals provide both definition and presence to the Yarning Circle installation helping make the Circle a peaceful, restful area for the school community to connect and share stories.
The murals were unveiled to coincide with Catholic Schools Week with special visitors Lindsay Spencer, Regional Service Advisor from the Catholic Schools Office; Rebecca Janssen who liaised with the Country Arts Support Program (CASP) to gain a grant to embark on the mural project; Anna Rolfe who was engaged as the Artist in residence; and past Year 6 students who attended to help with the reveal.
Speaking on the day Rebecca said the murals showcased the school’s strength of wellbeing support for the whole child, to ensure the students are nurtured as well as achieving their academic goals.
“The murals are a great addition to the grounds; we had a working bee before they were unveiled and those helping were stopped in their tracks when they saw them. They enrich the grounds as well as enrich the creativity and artistic knowledge of all students,” Mrs Whale said.
