Tuesday night saw the Muswellbrook Squash Club hold its AGM with plenty of members listening intently to the club activities and fortunes for the past year. The 2026 elections saw Adrian Barwick returned as President, Gavin Matheson as Secretary and new Treasurer Hayley Wear while current committee Alex Newton, Mick Jones, Shane Davis, Luke McTaggart and Donna Murdoch were joined by Bruce Webber and Mitchell Gylberde on the Executive Committee. Club President Adrian commended the members for the spirit they bring making everyone feel welcome and the turnaround of player from comp to comp due to injuries and leaving the area saw plenty of new players filling the void and buying in to the culture of meeting new people and having fun.
Saturday Girl’s Day Out
There was plenty of smiles on the faces of the girls trying their hand at squash for the first time at Olympic Park with 15 participants having plenty of fun with lots of activities with the balls and the racquets. Belinda, Donna and Hayley were on hand to show the girls how it’s done while Adrian was on ball retrieval duty to keep the fun flowing. Girl’s Day Out – Women in Sport is a wonderful program of sporting events for girls to take part in and be actively involved.

Saturday Social Hit
Eleven players found the air conditioning inviting but had to earn it with plenty of game time on the court. Caitlin, Natalie, Blake and Aaron were keen to improve their accuracy while Hayden, Gee, Scott and Mitchell were keen to improve their conditioning. In the end, everyone decided to improve their recovery time with plenty of drinks and chat off the courts.
Sunday Morning Juniors
Eight players including four new players and Teddy back on court for the first time this year joining Max, Travis and Jake for plenty of activities and games to keep them running from one side of the court to the other. Isobella and Natalie were two of the Girl’s Day Out participants keen to see what a real squash court looks like while Theo and Jack were keen to get ball to racquet and keep moving to get to the next shot.
Monday Night Round 4
While the previous few weeks had been quiet, it was a packed house last Monday with Railway Hotel getting the clean sheet over Edward Higgens Parkinson by 22 points to 4 thanks to Belinda “give me a minute” Stephens coming back from 2-1 down to crawl over the line against Jono “give me an hour” Williams in a ripper. Double Picc secured a good 19 points to 6 win over Royal Hotel with Wendy “in the groove” Crowther and Shane “twist and shout” Davis giving their all locked at a set apiece with each game going to the wire 17-15. Wendy managed to keep her nerve to take the next two sets 15-13, 15-11 in a thoroughly entertaining four setter. Muswellbrook Steel Supplies hold a 10 points to 5 lead over McGrath with a match to play with Jessy “fully inflatable” Besford bouncing around to win in three against Luke “puncture kit” McTaggart.

Tuesday Night Round 4
Whiteman’s Welding played well winning 17 points to 6 over Curtis Gant Betts with Graeme “dig deep” Nebauer dropping a set against Tristan “jackhammer” Lennox before taking the match in an entertaining four sets. Muswellbrook RSL Club were too good for Gamma Services 18 points to 6 after Ricki “round and round we go” Clifford using up his frequent flyer points to overcome Jaxon “flight delayed” Matheson in a marathon four sets. Hunter Medical Practice have a 10 points to 8 lead over Workers Club with Noman “processing” Jawaad and Alex “computing” Dougall both going point for point in a four-set cliffhanger that saw Noman gasp over the line 15-13, 18-16, 16-18, 15-11.

Match of the round went to Tuesday night’s clash between Hunter Medical Practice’s Alex “smash ‘n’ grab” Newton battle it out with Workers Club’s Mick “stand and deliver” Jones with Alex going blow for blow to take a 2-1 lead before Mick clawed his way back 17-15 to level the match up. Both players had plenty of chances with Alex falling over the line 15-13 in a crowd-pleasing match
