Mark Saturday 28th February on the calendar with the Girls Day Out Women in Sport Festival taking place at Olympic Park starting from 8am. For the first time squash has been included with two sessions from 11-11.45am and 12-12.45pm allowing girls from 5-16 years old to try a new sport under the guidance of our senior club women. Of course, there’s plenty of other sports to try out on the day so grab your tickets on the Girls Day Out web page.
Good luck to at least 10 Muswellbrook juniors taking part in Round 1 of this year’s Hunter Junior Circuit at Watagan this Sunday starting at 10am. There’s still time for any other juniors keen to have a go with all grades including Novice catered for and a fun day of squash action and meeting new friends is guaranteed.
Saturday Social Hit
Ten players enjoyed a good hitout with Blake keen to keep his fitness up with his team having the bye this week while Travis and Jaxon don’t need to worry about fitness, they just like to run. New players Mark and Chloe arrived late just in time to take the court with the earlier players happy to rest up or use the other court for some three-quarter matchups.
Sunday Morning Juniors
Four juniors had plenty of activities with rewards and penalties attached as the easter ball hunt reward Travis (3 squats) and Max (6 squats) but Jaxon had to recover from 39 squats in his frantic attempt to find the ball. Brendan took out the fastest to complete the ghosting course while Max (2 sprints), Travis (3 sprints) and Jaxon (6 sprints) might be a little quicker next time.
Monday Night Round 2
It was an early night with four catchup matches still to take place but that didn’t stop some thrilling matches with the games that did go ahead. Muswellbrook Steel Supplies just snuck home be a game against Railway Hotel thanks to Phil “fetch” Allen grabbing an all-important game off Adrian “stay” Barwick in a spine-tingling 20-18 in the third set before losing the match in four. With two matches remaining it’s one match apiece between McGrath and Double Picc after Andrew “Thor” Reynolds put the hammer down and Anthony “Ironman” Thomson in an entertaining three sets. Another two matches remain in the Royal Hotel and Edward Higgens Parkinson showdown with Mauricio “have racquet, will travel” Lopez keeping his nerve against Josh “stay at home” Oldham in a tough three sets.
Tuesday Night Round 2
In contrast to the Monday Night crickets, there was plenty of noise with all matches being played out to a full house. Curtis Gant Betts had a strong win over Gamma Services by 17points to 6 with Tristan “ripcord” Lennox needing every point to outlast Jesse “base jumper” Badior with only 6 points separating them after a cracking four sets. Muswellbrook RSL got the points in a long night against Hunter Medical Practice with two five setters and two four setters giving both sides a chance at winning with Aaron “turbo” Lambie taking the rest of the week off after a marathon four set win over Caitlin “no brakes” Wallington. Whiteman Welding had the bye last week and started their campaign off well with a strong 17points to 6 win over Autopro with Adrian “oil can” Barwick needing some adjusting losing the first set 15-13 to a running Mark “V8” Rikard-Bell before steaming home in a crowd-pleasing four sets.
Match of the round went to Tuesday night’s clash between Hunter Medical Practice’s Alex “wham, bam” Newton and RSL’s Cameron “return fire” Eckersley with Cameron leading 2-1 after three epic sets 15-13, 12-15, 16-14 before the gearbox seizes letting Alex grab the next two sets 15-9, 15-9 for the win.
See you on the courts
