There is no denying motorsport is a popular pastime in the Hunter and Lake Liddell Recreation area is set to give the region a speedway track again.

After Mitchell Biner had a chance encounter with Ged Elphinstone from GJ’s By The Lake an idea has become reality and the Lake Liddell Speedbowl was born.

“He had a previous track built but it wasn’t quite right, I said let’s change it, let’s do what has never been done before anywhere in the country,” Mitchell said of the track aimed at small cars.

“So many people have memories of going to the motordrome as a kid, and the closest speedway now is Tamworth.

“It’s going to be massive for the local area, just for people to be able to come out and watch, and racers are coming to town to stay in hotels and eat at restaurants.

“It is a massive boost to the Muswellbrook community.”

To ensure Lake Liddell Speedbowl meets the criteria for safe operation it has been given limited approval to operate while the final processes are checked off.

“What we are going to do is run private, invite-only days so we are very specific in who we are inviting,” Mitchell explained of the requirements for them to operate.

“No spectators yet until we iron out our bugs and are happy, but the plan is to have a summer season of racing with two wheels, three wheels and four wheels.”
