As it heads into its third year, Dave Andrews and the PCYC Singleton team are excited for the annual Book Fair, set to be held from Thursday, July 25 to Saturday, July 27.
“It has proven to be a very popular event on the Singleton calendar, and it draws many people from outside the local area as well,” Singleton PCYC club manager Dave Andrews said.
Last year’s Book Fair had 12,000 books, but this year’s fair will be even bigger with roughly 16,000 for visitors to look through.
“It’s going to be big… so big that just like last year, there will be no DVD’s/CD’s/Games, they will be on a separate weekend Saturday Sept 21 and Sunday Sept 22 at the PCYC,” Dave said.
The event has garnered a lot of community support over the years, with all books being donated by local people and organisations including Father Riley’s, Vinnies, the Co-op Op Shop and Sarah Johnstone from the Little Book Place.
Hunter Valley Operations have sponsored this year’s fair again and the School of Infantry will be assisting with heavy lifting during the week of the Book Fair.
“The bulk of the sorting is done by Carolyn, Catherine and Jenna; I tell people it is like eating an elephant, you just have to keep nibbling on it one bite at a time, so without their help we would be buggered,” Dave said.
All proceeds will go to supporting the PCYC’s programs.
