Singleton AFL Roosters needs players to continue their legacy of outstanding on field performance and sporting spirit.

With registrations now open, club president Dylan Hixon said they need to boost numbers across all grades but especially with the senior mens side.

The Roosters offer competition for males and females from Auskick to under 17s age divisions and Dylan said the club intends to be more involved in school development programs and will establish interschool competitions as soon as possible.

“When you compare our AFL facilities to others around the Hunter, we definitely have one of the best there is, the field, the outlook, the clubhouse and with new refurbishments and extensions happening this year, I am confident as we move forward,” Dylan said.

It is exciting times with significant funding seeing work on the extension beginning in April due for completion by the end of the season.  Additional female change rooms, extended canteen and clubhouse space and spectator areas will add to an already top class venue.

The alternative for juniors playing in Singleton is offered at Maitland but Dylan and his enthusiastic committee are hopeful Singleton juniors and those in the Upper Hunter will look at the opportunities offered by the Roosters.

The Roosters offer opportunity to play in junior sides as well as the senior mens and womens teams.

They are part of the broader Hunter competition with home and away games and have experienced premiership trophies over the years on top of outstanding individual performances by many players.

Dylan put his hand up to be president once again after taking on the role last season.  It is a brave move coming on the back of the Greta bus crash tragedy last June that saw 10 people lose their lives and others left with life-long injuries and experiences, many associated with the Roosters.

“It’s tough but I am feeling confident for the future, our club is close and we all love AFL and what it brings on and off the field, the friendships and the competition, the celebrations and the camaraderie and I invite anyone wanting to have a run to come along and get involved,” Dylan said.

To register contact Dylan on 0457663210 or follow the link on the Roosters socials and website.

It has been said that you cannot mention you are from Victoria in Singleton without being enticed to play for the Roosters.  You don’t need playing experience, just a desire to experience the game under one of the country’s best AFL clubs you will ever find.

Volunteers, referees, canteen helpers, groundsmen, administration, managers and coaches are equally welcome so sign up now.  Become a Rooster, become a legend of this very legendary club.
