What started as some workshop banter between team members at DK Heavy Plant Services has become an exciting community event.

In a few weeks’ time they will host a postie bike challenge from Muswellbrook to Nundle to raise funds for R U OK.

“They all have a common love of getting out on their bikes of a weekend, and it got to a point where they decided they wanted to have an event, do something that would allow them to spend a day out together, but also maybe raise some money for a charity or a cause,” Kylie Facer, general manager for DK Heavy Plan Services explained.

“They’re going to do a trek from the shed in the morning, stopping at various locations along the way, Aberdeen being one of them, Gundy, and then winding up at Nundle Pub, just having a great fun day with some activities along the way.”

There will be two different tracks for the ride that will make it more accessible for varied skill, and machinery, levels aimed to encourage members of the community will join the DK team for a fun day out.

You don’t even have to be on a bike to be a part of it.

Festivities kick off at DK’s Thomas Mitchell Drive workshop in Muswellbrook where the riders will set off.  The finish line at Nundle Pub will see plenty of raffles and auctions  to boost fund raising.

Kylie shared that hosting the event and choosing R U OK to benefit from fundraising is about more than just money, it is about fostering a good workplace culture and community.

“I think it’s also about recognising the fact that our guys come to work and they go home to families, and if you’re in a space that’s not quite right, that doesn’t just stay with you, it runs through your family, it can run through your friendship groups, it runs through the community,” she said.

“If we can continue to bring people together, put an emphasis and a focus on the importance of being able to hang out with friends, blow off some steam, have a chat, get things off your chest, out of your head, then I think that helps to put a lot of normality on mental health.”

The DK Heavy Plant Services Postie Bike Challenge will run on Saturday, September 21, with stands up a 10am from the shed at 39 Thomas Mitchell Drive, the community is invited out for breakfast with the riders from 8.30am.
