Have you ever wondered what Probus is all about?  Well, there is no better month to find out then October when the organisation celebrates Probus Month.Probus Club in Singleton is hosting an information morning at Singleton York Street Diggers on October 17 from 10am to 12noon and invites those 55 years of age or over or semi-retired people to come along and hear about the opportunities offered by the club.“Come along and talk to both members of the Ladies and Mens Probus Clubs in Singleton, a space for fun and friendship in retirement,” proud Probus Mens club secretary John Tindale told The Hunter River Times.“If you can’t make it on the day and would like further information just contact me,” John said.  His mobile number is 0402 141 734 or email John on jo***********@bi*****.com.  If you would like to contact the Ladies Probus please call Elaine Thomas on 0432 870 012.John said memberships have dropped across the board at many organisations and Probus is no different but it is essential people remain engaged in their community and Probus was an excellent way to do that.Probus CEO Silvana Martignago said too often, retirees focus on their financial well-being in retirement and give little thought to their social well-being.“This is where Probus can come in, it is an inclusive and welcoming social club.“There are already thousands of Probus Club members across Australia enjoying fun and friendship and we invite everyone who is retired or semi-retired to discover Probus today,” Silvana said. The basic purpose of Probus Clubs is to provide regular gatherings for people in retirement. Both the Singleton Ladies and the Mens clubs in Singleton meet monthly, most times with a guest speaker but it is the trips organised that attract even more interest.Day excursions, overnight stays and longer trips are enjoyed and as John says, the more the merrier.

“We visit places and organisations of interest to our members, recently we visited Scone Airport after visiting a horse stud, we have organised trips to shows in Sydney and we would certainly like to see more people take up this opportunity,” John said.

So, head to the information day on October 17 and find out about Probus, might be the best decision you have made.
