Scone artist Roberta Wiseman was all smiles when she was declared as the winner of the 57th Scone Art Prize last Friday.
The local artist said she felt very warm and happy to receive the Bobbie Paradice Prize for the first time.
“I have had a lot to do with Scone and the Arts and Crafts and came to the very first exhibition at Campbells Corner showroom then we came here the next year,” she told The Hunter Rive Times moments after receiving the award.
Her painting “Red Cannas” was the pick by the judges, artist Michelle Carpenter-Kludas received the Frans Kernker Memorial Prize for her piece “Green Doc’s”.
“I had cannas growing around the base of the tank near my past studio in Scone and I painted them and always liked them,” she said.
“I have won the smaller awards before but this one is very special to me because it is the Scone Open.”
The Scone Art Prize has been conducted annually since 1964 with the exception of 1966 and 1979 due to drought and 1975 when the new section of the building was being constructed.
