Robert Marlow is not just looking for redemption when he makes his return to the Natural Strongman Worlds, he is looking for a world record.
The Muswellbrook athlete has been more focused than ever since he contested the same event in Ireland last year.
“I’m feeling strong, I’m feeling confident, better headspace this time, because I know what I’m going into,” Rob shared.
“Pretty much straight after Worlds (last year) I jumped on with a nutritionist because I feel like that was where I was lacking.”
As a result Rob has lost weight but has gained strength and is fuelling his body for performance while focused on the eight events he will contest over two days in Ireland next month.
“My goals is hopefully do better than last year, I’d love to get on the podium, I’d love to win it,” Rod shared.
“One event we have is a max axle press, and the current record for the heavy weights for Natural’s is 160 kilos, so I’m hoping to be able to push that, hopefully come home holding the axle press record.”
Rob feels like the eight events he will face this year are better suited to him, but still included are some left-field movements including the Hercules Hold which involves holding a suspended weight on both sides of the body.
“I’ll be taking all events hard, I want to have good results in every event,” he said.
“I have spent some money this year getting equipment to help me train so I could come in with the best chance I can.”
Rob will head to Ireland in a month and will keep up his training at Crossfit Muswellbrook to iron out a few niggles he has in the lead up to stepping onto the national stage once more.
