An overall successful round of the Dunlop Super2 series at Queensland Raceway for Rylan Gray has allowed him to extend his championship lead coming into a busy couple of months on track.

“It was an okay weekend I would say, we got a win on Saturday which was pretty good, I didn’t really think we had car speed to be on that top step but we just put everything together and got there,” Rylan reflected on the weekend.

“Once you get back in the pack a little bit you catch aero wash, and that’s what happened on Sunday, and it’s really hard to pass. But all the racing was good at QR, so it was good to be back.”

The goal was to extend the championship lead going into the remaining two Super2 rounds, especially at Bathurst where Rylan will be pulling double duties, racing in the Supercars championship as well.

But before getting to Bathurst, Rylan and his Tickford Autosport teammate Lochie Dalton will team up for the AirTouch 500 at The Bend on September 12 to 14.

“I think I’d say we’re confident, with us being sort of two main drivers, we’re a lot quicker than a lot of the co-drivers so it’s a stronger pairing compared to others,” Rylan told The Hunter River Times.

“We’ve got speed there, we’ll just hopefully have good car speed to put it up somewhere competitive, I think we got a good shot of getting a decent result.

“I don’t think we really look at it as having a main driver, if one of us is quicker on the weekend, then we’ll put that person in to qualify, because we want the best result for both of us and not just fighting over a top step as a main driver.”
