After an amazing weekend at Symmons Plains in Tasmania, Rylan Gray currently holds the Dunlop Super2 championship lead.
The Denman driver also celebrated his first pole position and win in the competition on Saturday, and on Sunday he finished third which earned him enough points to secure the round win as well.
“It was pretty cool to do a lot of firsts in one weekend,” Rylan told The Hunter River Times.
“We rolled out the cars strong, and that’s how they pretty much stayed the whole weekend. Tazzie is such a short little track, but it’s technical, so you need to be nearly perfect everywhere in qualifying to put it out the front.”
There were a few glitches in the weekend, like an issue in practice on Friday that took them off the track for a chunk of the session, and a mistake in Rylan’s shootout lap on Sunday that saw him start out of fifth.
With two of his Tickford Autosport teammates sitting second and third in the championship, Rylan shared the team enjoyed a good boost of enthusiasm that will hopefully maintain momentum into the next round in Townsville in July.
This isn’t his only recent success, skip back a weekend and he was behind the wheel of the GT4 Mustang at Sydney Motorsport Park where he and George Miedecke won their Sunday race.
“It’s good, we haven’t stood on the top of podium this season, so it was good to get one back and get a decent bag of points,” Rylan shared after the race.
“We found after Saturday’s race both the rear wheel bearings were damaged, so that didn’t really help us much, we got that all fixed last night and came out today swinging and with the win. So big turnaround from the start of the weekend.”
Rylan and Geroge Miedecke had finished fifth in their first race for the weekend, fighting hard with the damage they would discover post-race as well as tyres that were demeriting quickly on a track that is not suited to the Mustang.
