Singleton District Cricket Association treasurer Daniel Storey has revealed the appointment of Justin Harris as first grade umpire ahead of the 2020/21 season.
“Justin has done a couple of games last year and a few games down at Newcastle so we’re going to have him as pretty much a full time umpire every week,” Storey told The Hunter River Times.
“We’re looking for more, it would be good to have both first-grade games with umpires as well as the lower grades.”
Harris, 39, hopes he will not be alone.
“Surely with the way the town is now and the diversity of Singleton there are people who love their cricket but they haven’t got involved because they don’t know anybody,” Harris said.
“So, we’re hoping to have five or six all up.”
Umpires will be paid $100 per game ($120 for first grade).
“The SDCA is prepared to cover their umpiring course fee, cover the cost of clothing and any affiliation fees that they pay,” Storey concluded.
