There is no football code war for NRL legend Steve Simpson.

He has represented Australia, played state of origin for NSW and won an NRL premiership for the Newcastle Knights.

Now, Steve Simpson has traded in his NRL kit for the pink runners’ uniform of the Maitland Saints under-13 AFL side (an impressive line-up featuring his children Isla and Roy).

The Hunter River Times’ paparazzi spotted Simpson during his game-day duties in the Saints’ opening round 11.1 (67) to 1.1 (7) win against Warners Bay.

Originally from Broke, the 40-year-old has already proven to be a role model for junior rugby league players across the Upper Hunter through the annual Steve Simpson Shield.

The Knights great will a great asset for the local AFL community.
