Singleton Cancer Appeal on a Mission

Singleton Cancer Appeal is on a mission to upgrade two more special care rooms at Singleton Hospital. Some of the committee members working hard towards the goal are (l-r) John Sullivan, Allyson Watson, Colleen Ernst, Vicki Waugh, Marion Fellowes, Graham Barnett, Kay Sullivan, and Ian Skilton.

Singleton Cancer Appeal has been granted two more rooms at Singleton Hospital to upgrade to special care rooms, adding the total of these community funded and highly valued rooms to six.

Appeal president Kay Sullivan said she is excited the organisation she leads can increase the care and comfort to those sadly in the final stages of life.

“Over the years we have fully refurbished and fitted out four rooms that we know are well used and appreciated by patients and their families so to be able to bring another two rooms online is wonderful,” Kay said.

The news only came last week and the committee is in the process of securing approved tenders to supply quotes for the job but Kay is hoping the work will begin soon.

The rooms are being funded by proceeds from Dolly’s Op Shop in George Street, Singleton, a shop that relies solely on donations and sales of these donated items.

“I want people to know when they come into the shop and buy something that their money is going directly to Singleton Cancer Appeal and the project now is to upgrade and furnish these two new special care rooms,” Kay said.

Donations are most welcome and the committee acknowledges with appreciation the recent donation from Singleton Senior Citizens Committee of $11,000 that will go directly to the project.

While the occupancy priority for the rooms is for palliative care patients, they will also be open to private hospital patients which is an asset for the hospital.

If you are interested in becoming involved with Singleton Cancer Appeal, they meet on the second Tuesday of the month at Kay’s home.

Anyone wanting more information can call Kay on 0417 424 482 or call into Dolly’s.
