The second attempt to hold Singleton Local Government Elections has been successful with nine people to be sworn into their councillor roles on August 30.
Eight of the councillors elected in December last year will return to their positions while Sarah Johnstone, who missed out in 2021 by a handful of votes, will replace Belinda Charlton.
The by-election came about because a failure of the iVote system in December. The NSW Supreme Court determined that the failure could have impacted the result and Singleton, along with Kempsey and one ward in Shellharbour, returned to the polls on July 30.
Of the 17,286 people enrolled in Singleton, 13,259 people voted, a turn out of 76.7 per cent.
Of those 13,259 votes, 12,475 were formal votes with 5.91 per cent informal.
NSW Electoral Commission will not issue fines for those who did not vote in the 2021 election in Singleton. If you did receive a fine, contact the Commission and you will be issued with a refund.
Fines for not voting are $55 and given the figures above, a bill of $221,485 will be issued to residents in Singleton Local Government Election who did not vote on July 30.
